Would recommend for a mini-vacation
Comfortable room, friendly staff, enjoyed a good breakfast, and the convenient location made it easy to reach the nearby Castleton Train Station for exploring.
Everything was as expected.

Consider checking the breakfast times in advance if you have an early schedule, as it's a great buffet but starts at 7 am.

The use of the nearby leisure centre was an asset.
I did not enjoy the weekend breakfast as it wasn't freshly cooked, unlike the one served on weekdays. I did not like the fact that the grout and sealant in the shower was very mouldy and needs to be replaced. I did not like the fact that we were given a double room when we booked a twin. I did not like the fact that we had to move rooms twice as the bathroom in the second room we were offered smelt very badly of a blocked drain.

Food in the restuarant was very good both for evening meal and breakfast.
Facilities in what was described as an "executive" room were very poor. Such as no bedside tables, no phone, no way to turn off lights from bed.

Totally recommend for a brief retreat
Charming atmosphere, friendly staff, combined with a delicious breakfast in the restaurant, created a good stay, improved with the convenience of nearby Castleton Train Station for easy exploration.
Couldn't fault.

great park views and easy access to nearby attractions
The easy access to heaton park and hopwood woods made my city strolls lovely. While the hotel has a lot of potential, it needs a little love and affection in certain areas.

Very reasonable for price
Hotel has tired furnishings and decor. Lots of small things need to be repaired, replaced or redecorated. Almost tatty in some respects

Staff were very friendly. Wifi was free which is always irritating in other hotels. Food was good although somewhat saltier than my taste. The room was nice and comfortable with a decent TV if I wanted to watch. Despite proximity to motorway it was reasonably quiet...
